OK, so you've been on many weight-loss diets, failed on some, lost on others - but you haven't yet managed to keep the weight off.
You find yourself back in the same old spot -
needing and wanting to lose weight.
But: how do you get enough confidence to try again after past failures?
Here's what will give it to you. When it comes to dieting, let little triumphs put confidence in your heart.
Don't start off big - start off small.
Elaine F. told us a few of the things she did to boost her self-confidence in her ability to lose weight.
Week One She set as her task simply to NOT weigh herself every day, which had always thrown her into a tizzy. She felt able to do this, and was able to. It was an accomplishment! It helped her stick to dieting all week, absent the constant worry about exactly how much weight she was losing each day.
Week Two Elaine promised herself that she would look at her body in the bathroom mirror, something she had been avoiding at all cost. On the last day of the second week of this diet plan, she looked. It wasn't so bad - not good, but not as bad as she was thinking it was.
"OK," she thought, "I'm 25 pounds overweight. So what. This is a problem I can do something about." This mighty thought just from one look in a full-length mirror.
Week Three Elaine's mom always had a weight problem. She asked her mom about her experience with that, and what the causes were. She had never brought up the subject with her mother, and it was very informative. She had always wanted her mother to talk to her about it. It helped.
Small triumphs build confidence.
