What about social norms? It certainly is sharing the driver’s seat with you. And then there is the influence of family, friends, advertising, and the media, Quite a daunting list of controllers with anywhere from a dash to a sizeable amount of control.
But hold on a sec. There is another controller inside you that is largely out of your control. And it’s the bane of your existence where bad eating habits and losing weight is concerned. I’m referring to goals that you have for yourself that you aren’t aware of. These are the goals that thwart your efforts at dieting and losing weight. They foil and frustrate you to no end while you try your damndest to shed pounds you definitely don’t want.
These controlling goals of yours, hidden from sight, can be brought to the surface by a simple exercise of pros and cons. There’s a twist. It’s not pros for losing weight and cons for not losing weight. It’s pros for not losing weight and cons for losing weight. Try making a list of pros for not losing weight and cons for losing weight, and see what goals have been hiding from you—and controlling you.
