Use it and lose it.
Use what?
Your head.
Lose what?
The weight.
The mind-body connection is strong. Mind influences body, body influences mind.
So when you start dieting and exercising, don't forget to use your head too.
When you read all those women's weight-loss success stories, you can be sure each woman changed her thinking as well as her body.
Here's an example.
Lucy decided to order pre-made diet meals, even though she had done it before and given up halfway through. She lost 8 pounds to start with and then gained it back. But she was a workingwoman, and coming home to face cooking and preparing was too much for her. And the weekends were saved for fun.
So this time, what was different - what actually made all the difference, was facing something about herself she had not wanted to face before.
She was afraid of getting thin and looking good.
What a realization - wow!
She didn't get over this fear right away, not by a long shot. What she did do was THINK about it.
Lucy: What am I afraid of?
She thought long and she thought hard, and one of these thoughts was: if I lose weight, what excuse will I have for not pursuing the career I really want? (She wanted to be an architect.) I'm afraid of going full-steam on this dream of mine. Why am I afraid? Not sure, not sure.
Lucy didn't totally resolve this. In fact, she's still in the process. But the act of considering it - just that - meant that she didn't mindlessly blow the whole dieting thing.
She's still working on resolving the issue of her real ambition, and all that is holding her back.
In the meantime, the weight is coming off at a nice pace.
