Do you think it would help you do what you need to do to lose weight if you connected yourself as you are today with how you could be in the future?
What is it that you do when you don’t adhere to your weight loss routine? Is it that you are living just for today? What if you tried living for tomorrow too? For example, set your sights on how you will be two months from now if you stuck to your weight loss routine. Use your imagination. Think as vividly as you can about yourself two months from now. What would you be like? Spell it out. You might also envision yourself taking the weight loss steps that will get you to where you picture you will be in two months.
Once you have the two-month new, weight-losing you in mind, next try imagining yourself at six months. The value of these exercises is to more securely connect the present you with the future you. The hypothesis for not adhering to your weight loss routine in the present is that you have not established a firm connection with a future you who is reaping the benefits of sticking to her weight loss routine.
