The arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus integrates neural, hormonal, and nutrient signals and regulates hunger and satiation. Signals also come from higher cortical centers and influence the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system in regard to energy homeostasis. It is through the corticolimbic system, though, that environmental cues guide consumption of food that is desired and favored.
All of this is well and good, except it misses the point of what is driving you to eat in a weight-gaining, weight-maintaining way. While your neurology is certainly involved, your neurology is governed by more down-to-earth motivations.
